If you are new to my blog, the heartbeat here is to encourage people to add a Spoonful of Imagination to their lives. I believe we all have some kind of creativity inside of us and the more we stretch ourselves to express that, the more beautiful life can be.
I think you can take almost anything, add in a little imagination, and come up with something that is full of meaning and charm. Today, I hope to prove that with my DIY Painted Wood Hangers.
I pulled together a little acrylic paint, wood hangers, glitter, glue, and sharpies and got started!
The first thing I did was paint my hangers a pretty coral pink on one side.
Next, I used a little painter’s tape to add some stripes. I wanted to leave a little of the natural wood look, so I placed painter’s tape where I wanted the wood grain to show and painted the rest of the hanger.
After the paint dried, I pulled up the tape and the wood stripes looked perfect!
I think the hangers looked cute enough to be left alone, but I wanted to embellish them a little bit more. I used a little glue, paint, glitter, and sharpie to add some fun touches to my hangers. Once they dried, my painted wood hangers were complete!
These little hangers were so fun and easy. My kids love them too and have given me requests to make some for them.

Being a part of my son’s learning experience is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. I am constantly surprised by what I am learning with him as well. We have been studying Egypt this fall, and I am reading aloud books that fascinate me. It is so cool how these little lessons carry over to our everyday life, and we can talk about it freely since we are discovering it together.
I love that this project came with everything I needed. Every supply that I needed, I pulled from the box. It had paint, a brush, sponge, plate pallet, the lesson plan with pictures and maps, and an easy step by step tutorial on how to replicate their example frieze.
Caleb loved the hands on approach to learning. For a young guy, he really got to realize the work it took to write in hieroglyphics by writing his name in them!
He is so proud of his piece and quickly ran to show it to his siblings when he was done.
Discovery through Creativity
I browsed my scrapbook collection and found a piece that I wanted to use. One 12″ x 12″ piece was enough paper for all four 4″ x 6″ frames. I used the glass from the frame to cut the paper the right size. Once I had four sheets of paper for my frames, I set them aside and started on the letters.
I used just plain brown wrapping paper and stenciled my letters on to it. The brown paper was to act as my guide to cut my burlap latter, since it’s hard to write on burlap. See below.
I picked up my brown paper and placed a small square of burlap behind it. As I cut my letter out, I made sure to cut the burlap layer as well. This gave me a burlap letter without having sharpie markings on it (as sharpie might be the only thing that would have shown a stencil traced on burlap).
After all the letters were in frames, my new wall art was complete! It was such a simple craft. I love that I can easily switch this art out to use the frames for something else, but for now I have some fun, cheap wall art. I want to try this same idea, but with animal silhouettes instead of letters.
