Imagine

November 10, 2013 By Erica Deuel 1 Comment

imagineDo you have a word that is kind of your life mantra? If I had to pick one word that I am continually challenged, encouraged, and inspired by it would be “imagine”. So many things come to my mind when I think of this word. I like to picture a world different than we all know. Here are some of the thoughts that challenge me as I imagine…

Imagine a world where we really live out loving our neighbors.

Imagine if we were patient with our kids as we so desperately try to instill patience in them.

Imagine if we all believe we are masterpieces that God created.

Imagine if we all really lived in the belief that we have something to offer.

Imagine if we all believed to our core that we are accepted like we were created.

Imagine if we put our phone down and picked our kids up more.

Imagine if we used our gifts and talents for good.

Imagine if we cared for the widows and orphans.

Imagine if we gave our time away to help and be there for others.

Imagine if we truly lived like we had no tomorrow.

Imagine if we stopped moving and talking long enough to listen.

Imagine if we decided to live a purposeful life rather than watching it pass us by.

Imagine if we truly loved one another.

getting_a_tattooImagine the possibilities.

The beauty of these thoughts is that we don’t just have to imagine them. We can act. We all have a part to play.

This world can be changed. Let us walk in that belief. Let us face this week knowing that there is no one else like us and we have something to offer the world and those close to us. We all have a part and together we can imagine and act in creating a greater tomorrow.

getting a tattooI often lose perspective and get lost in my selfishness. I need reminding to step outside of myself and imagine a bigger and much better story – a world that can be changed by simple daily steps. I hope and pray as we start a new week you will join me in imagining and being a part of creating a more beautiful tomorrow.

New Seats Available for Saturday’s Spoonful Lab

October 21, 2013 By Erica Deuel 2 Comments

I can’t believe this is the week of my first “official” Spoonful Lab in Roswell, GA. I am busily doing last minute prep. What I am thrilled to realize is that I am loving all of it. I have not been stressed, and I can’t wait to craft with some of you soon! Thank you to those that have signed up and taken a chance with me for my lab THIS Saturday. I know for the first event that may feel like a risky thing. I really appreciate you trusting me. I am excited to be me, craft with you, and create a night that you will be able to unwind and have some fun while creating.

After getting everything ready I’ve decided to open up a few more seats. There are four tickets left to be exact. If you live in the Atlanta area I would love to hang with you this coming weekend! Please view my event page for more details.

Last weekend, I got the chance to go back to Athens and craft with my sister, Joni, and her college roommates for their Spoonful Lab. They have been my like my pilot program and the first time was such a blast that we decided to try to make these happen on a more official and regular basis. This past weekend I took my sign supplies and got to teach a few of my painting techniques to the girls.

I love this relaxed atmosphere. We just craft, chat, and snack. It’s a special day trip with my little Reagan as well. She knows its our time to go to college, and she loves it. She puts on a good show by being her cute self, participates a little, eats way too much sugar, and then crashes for a movie every time.

craft_snackingIt’s so fun getting to know these sweet girls. They are awesome, and I couldn’t be more thankful my sister has such a great group around her. One thing that I am loving about our time together is learning about each girl. What they like, what creative things appeal to them from colors to clothes. I love watching them brainstorm and seeing the path of discovery as they go from an idea to an actual finished product and helping them get there with something they are proud of.

One thing that was cool this past week was helping some girls spray paint for the first time.

painting_signsI left and they were talking about making signs for Christmas presents, and I have already received pictures of new signs they have constructed. So cool.

Inspiring these girls and helping them see that they can create is such a joy.

hand_painted_signsI love the energy that comes from creating together. It’s so fun and empowering. Grab a friend and come out and join us this Saturday night! Registration will close Thursday night at 11:59pm… don’t miss out!

girls_craft_nightThank you so much for checking in! If you would like, I would love if you helped spread the word about these four remaining seats. Please feel free to post the above picture on your interwebs. Thank you so much!

SpoonfulLab_Teaser

I am thrilled to announce the next phase of Spoonful Labs is coming to North Atlanta on Saturday, October 26th. As I’ve shared before, we’ve been testing the Spoonful Lab concept with my sister and her roommates in Athens. I can’t wait to open up this opportunity for those in the Atlanta area. Next week, I will provide all the details and open up an opportunity for you to register. In the meantime, here’s a few of the highlights…

  • A craft night led by me where we will create a project together
  • All supplies included
  • Drinks
  • Dessert
  • Time devoted to working out your creative muscles
  • A craft that you can proudly take home
  • A pretty amazing girls night for $30

I’m still working out my location, (it will be in the Roswell/Alpharetta/Cumming area) but I can tell you this, it is going to be a small gathering. When the registration opens, I would encourage you to sign up right away. This night will fill up fast. Fill out the contact form below if you are interested and you will get an email heads-up before the registration opens. No worries, you aren’t committing to anything aside from an email update.

I love sharing my crafts here and am thrilled at the prospect of getting to actually work with some of you! A little spoonful of imagination goes a long way and I know together we will inspire one another!

Introducing: Spoonful Labs

September 5, 2013 By Erica Deuel 13 Comments

embroidery hoop suppliesI know a lot of us grieved the end of summer. I know I did. As the summer was coming to a close, Matt and I dreamed up an idea: Spoonful Labs. I will share more details of what it looks like below, but first…

One reason I didn’t want the summer to end is because of this girl right here…

sistersMy sister, Joni, is one of my best friends. I got to see her a ton this summer, and we grew even closer. Joni goes to the University of Georgia, so we don’t get to see each other as much during the school year. My kids are obsessed with her maybe more than me. Reagan has prayed every night, since Joni left to go back to school, that God would find her (because Reagan has not seen her in a while, Joni must be lost).

The heart behind Spoonful Labs is to use my creative skills with a personal touch by bringing them in person to teach, mingle, love on, and create with others. Joni shared that her five roommates love to create and had been reading and enjoying my blog. I was honored and humbled. It’s always exciting and encouraging that this little hobby of mine-could actually be inspiring and encouraging others.

As we discussed Spoonful Labs we realized I had a great opportunity to try it out with my sister and her friends (and as a huge bonus it gave me an excuse to visit and stay more connected to my sis).

I was so excited to take a bunch of craft supplies (and my little Reagan) to Athens last weekend and create with these awesome girls! In the few hours we were together, we got to hang out, laugh, create, talk, and get to know each other….I have honestly missed them all this week. I have new friends.

making_embroidery_hoopsI taught them how to embroider hoops. They are such creative girls and their house is something out of a magazine. It’s gorgeous as you can see in these pictures. Although they are super crafty, they had not made embroidery hoops before. I showed them how I start one, gave tips and things I have learned, laid out supplies, and set them loose. They pulled out phones and laptops and browsed pinterest and google images to find inspiring hoops and inspirational quotes to create their own.

craft partyWe sat around and sewed, ate cookies, talked, and watched Reagan entertain us by being her cute self and doing her own craft (gluing popsicle sticks). It was so fun to see how each girl’s personality came out in their hoop. The colors they chose. The fabrics they liked. It was so great. I was inspired by them too! I loved the layering of fabrics and I started a new hoop based on a quote from one of them!

I am already dreaming of when I can go back and craft with them again.

After a few hours, my little girl was worn out. We had to pack up and head home. I love the idea of Spoonful Labs being able to love on girls and getting to know some readers on a more personal level. What I wasn’t expecting was the joy it would bring me by just being me and creating with others. So much of blogging about my crafts can loose some of “me” as I try to keep posts focused and simple. I got to say a lot more about crafts and share so many more tips in person, and it was so fun to do something I love while helping others learn a skill that they now love too. Thank you girls for a wonderful day and for being my models in this post. 🙂 You are all beautiful, and I cant wait to hang out again soon!

sewing_embroidery_hoopsI’m piloting this idea with my Athens girls for now. But who knows, maybe there will be a Spoonful Lab coming to a place near you sometime in the not too distant future!?

I hope you are able to be investing in something that inspires you, and were able to create something this week! Thank you so much for stopping by!
