Homegoods Blogger Party

January 21, 2013 By Erica Deuel 17 Comments

coffee on a cold morning

Have you ever wanted to go shopping in your favorite store on a private shopping spree before the store opens to the public?  The thought of being able to park up close and get in when no one else is around, has always seemed like a dream.

Would I set my alarm to get up early, scrape ice off my car windows, make a stop to get my coffee, all to shop at Homegoods before the store opens to the public…all without my kids?

welcome bloggers

Yes.  Yes, I would!  This weekend I had the chance to do just that.

Rhoda at Southern Hospitality invited local bloggers to join her at Homegoods BEFORE the store opened for our own private shopping experience.  I love Rhoda, and I love Homegoods.  So, of course I said, “YES” I would be there!

Here is Rhoda being her sweet self and welcoming us to her Homegoods party.  If you have read Rhoda’s blog, you probably think she is the most creative, sweet, southern, talented, hospitable girl in the world.  She really is that way in person as well.  I would hang out with Rhoda any time.

I blog because I love it, but another reason I love to blog is all the friendships I have made through it.  I love getting to know the girls behind the blogs I read, and especially when I find out they are just as amazing in person.  I finally got to meet Lisa at Before Meets After and it was so fun to be with her and a bunch of other local bloggers at Homegoods.

We walked around talking and brainstorming about what we would do with different items throughout the store.  It was so casual and easy as we have so many similar loves: decorating and blogging.  As we found something that caught our eye, we debated how we would spend our money on all the different items we loved in the store.

I loved all those fun stools.  All the different colors and fun designs were calling out to me.  I had to silently remind myself that I already have four step stools in this little house.

heidi at decor and more

I have gotten to know Heidi at Decor and More, and she is a blast.  She is so creative and fun to talk to.  I loved how when we were walking down an aisle and she saw me pick up these pillow shams, she mentioned how they looked like just me and would go perfect in my little girl’s room.

I refrained from the pillow shams, but I was also tempted by this gorgeous painting below.

Donna at My Sweet Things and I laughed about this gigantic friend hanging out behind us as we talked.

carved wood owl

I was so tempted to buy this thick wood carved owl.  For $14 he was a steal!  I put him back, thinking I have enough owls in this house, but I regret it.  I might be making a trip back to Homegoods (with all three of my kiddos) this week to rescue this owl and bring him home.

homegoods signs

My friend Sally and I both found beautiful signs that have messages that spoke right to us!  I love how she picked the hot pink sign to go in her kitchen. Amazing style!

my homegoods finds

I had a wonderful time at Rhoda’s Homegoods party, and I don’t know how I left with only two treasures.

I did buy that sweet sign.  I love every line on it and especially how it starts with “create something everyday.”  I hung it up in our school/craft room, as it is the room we spend the most time in.

I also found a beautiful deep purple ruffled pillow.  I had made a hot pink felt pillow similar for my daughter’s room, but I loved this pillow and for $12, I didn’t want to try to make it.  I added it to our sitting room in the kitchen.  I love the pop of purple it adds to the creme pillows already on the love seat.

What do you think of my finds?  Would you get up early too to go shopping with friends at one of your favorite stores?  Thank you so much Homegoods and Rhoda for this fun experience!

Thank you so much for stopping by!  I hope you have a great Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday and can enjoy a day with those you love!  We are headed to the Hawks game.

Thrifting Treasures

November 23, 2012 By Erica Deuel 1 Comment

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday.  We had an amazing day!  It was our first time to host, and we had Matt’s extended family over.  It was a lot of fun with lots of laughter and family!  The benefit of hosting was we hardly had to do any of the cooking.  Sweet deal in my book.  I can’t wait to share some of these pictures with you! I hope you enjoy the rest of this holiday weekend.  I did a little Black Friday shopping last night with my sister-in-law and am now gearing up for my son’s birthday tomorrow.  It is crazy busy times, but it is all so fun and full of love.  I am truly blessed!

Even though its been a busy week I didn’t want to ignore my Friday Project Spotlight. I wanted to share a quick chair makeover that my sister, Olivia did last week. Olivia is the other half Dancing Zebras, our Etsy craft store.

Olivia, and my niece, Charleigh, were in town for a week.  We crafted and did all sorts of fun thrifting shopping adventures.  It was a perfect week!  My mom was so sweet to watch the boys one afternoon and finish up “school,” so I could have a girls day!  So, my sis and I loaded up our girls and went to four thrift stores in a row.  It was so fun!

We found lots of good deals and fun things to re-do/re-vamp!  Don’t you love Reagan’s Baby Gap hat we found for $1.00?? I love brainstorming with Olivia and dreaming of how to make ugly things beautiful again.

One of Olivia’s amazing finds was this old chair that she redid with a little paint and a pretty piece of fabric!  I love it and might secretly be wishing I had bought that chair!

The chair folds up, and it would be so easy to store and yet bring out when you need that extra seat!  I love the colors she choose and combined together!  She unscrewed the seat, spray painted the chair, then recovered the seat with some fabric she had left over from another project.  She then went back and gave it a light sanding job.  Didn’t it come out so cute?! It always amazes me how quickly these thrifting finds can become treasures.

We had a lot of fun on our shopping trip.  I found some fun things that I was able to use this week to decorate for our Thanksgiving feast.

I got that little pumpkin holder for $1.00 and those glass vases for $.80 each.  I simply filled them with some acorns I had collected.  I just adore that wood bowl I found for $1.00!

Thanks for stopping in and seeing my Project Spotlight item.  Thanks Olivia for letting me feature your chair makeover!  Do you have a project you would like me to spotlight?  I’d love to hear from you and share one of your creations!  Message me and we can work it out! Enjoy the rest of your weekend and I’ll be back on Monday with more from my Tidbits of Me series.

Savannah, Georgia

October 18, 2012 By Erica Deuel 7 Comments

Last weekend I got to get away with three friends and spend the weekend in Savannah, Georgia.  It was a complete blast!  We went sightseeing, shopping, and did lots of eating.  It was the perfect girl’s getaway!

We ate lunch at a Mellow Mushroom right outside Savannah for lunch on our first day.  My boys have flipped over two of our lunch dates that were also eating there.  All four of us are moms of boys and took lots of pictures of the restaurant’s decor.  🙂

While sightseeing, we lived by the “block system” and the free maps located around Savannah.  I wasn’t very good with them, but I was very thankful to be with friends who were more proactive with figuring out the way to go.  My tendency is to think “let’s start walking, and we will find it”, which is not ever successful with my mind’s GPS.

They got us to this very cute store, The Paris Market.  Inside there were some real eye candy displays.

I absolutely love those glass lights.  I have no idea where I would put them, but I dream of having some somewhere someday!

I brought the boys home a bag of those beautiful marbles each.  They have been carrying them around like crazy but have had moments like in Hook where they are so upset they have “lost their marbles”.

I left that gorgeous store with those string balls on my to-do list.  I HAVE to make a bucket of them.  They are so colorful and fun.

This gorgeous drift wood elephant stood inside one store.  I have a thing for elephants and this one is perfection!

As we strolled from one store to the next and ate in lots of restaurants, we saw a common thing were these shelled chandeliers.  They really grew on me, and I kind of want to try to make one of them too!  We fell in love with a lot of the cute stores in Savannah.  There was one other store we just loved like The Paris Market, and I can’t remember the name.

We did lots of walking!  We walked all over on our own, and we also did two walking tours while we were there.  We did a ghost tour one night, and a cinema tour one afternoon.  They were both highlights of our trip!  Good thing they had one of my favorite stores in this town…

There were some beautiful candy stores along the river.  They provided lots of good treats to enjoy while walking around.

The squares around town are filled with Spanish moss trees, and I couldn’t get enough of them!

I had never been to Savannah and the beauty with the trees and architecture/buildings was so fun to take in.  The tours really helped us learn more about the city as well.  The Cinema tour was fascinating to see the parts of town which have been in movies.  We saw the square and restaurant that were used in Forest Gump.

I had never seen Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.  If you too have not seen it, it is a true story that took place in Savannah and then was also filmed there.  It was fascinating to see clips of the movie while we were looking at the real building.  The night after our tour we watched the movie.

This little history part of our trip was fascinating to all four of us, and we are all now reading the book that was written based on the movie’s plot.

I just adore all the features of these old houses.  I want to live in an old house with some of these fabulous features!  I love the great big front doors, the porches, the metal work, and definitely all the huge windows!

This is the main house in the Midnight of the Garden of Good and Evil.  So much history right here!

I love the color used on this house front.  So beautiful!

We had a lot of fun talking, laughing, and enjoying long meals with out the worry of a child losing it.  It was good to come home to my family though too!  It’s amazing how just a little space can be so rejuvenating and strengthening to go home and keep pouring into those cute, yet needy parts of your heart.

If you haven’t been to Savannah, GA, I highly recommend it!  Some of my favorite places were The Paris Market, Rocks on the Roof of the Bohemian Hotel, Huey’s, and The Moon River Brewing Company.  Oh, and you have to do a tour!!  For more gorgeous pictures from this trip please visit my friend Erin’s blog!

I hope you are all having a good week!  Check in tomorrow to see what item is in my Friday Project Spotlight!  It is something I haven’t made in a while, but I love them!

The Hunt of all HUNTS!

August 2, 2012 By Erica Deuel 3 Comments

Last night I got to go to the pre-sale  (for sellers and volunteers) with All 4 Kids.  It was amazing!!  Look at what all my sister-in-law, Stacy,  and I walked away with!

That bottom basket is her bucket of goodies.  Yes, that means I found my jogging stroller that I talked about wanting!!  I was so excited!!  In preparation of getting to go to this pre-sale, I was so busy this week entering my for sale items on-line and then tagging them as a seller!  There were some late nights and one run to the store at midnight (from my amazing husband), but we got it all done!  There is nothing like running out of ziplocks and masking tape mid-tagging!

We got rid of a lot!  I hope it all sells and doesn’t come back into this house.  There is something so freeing about simplifying and getting rid of stuff!

As, I drove to drop my sale items off, I saw this banner, and I got pumped!  This really is my favorite sale!  You are about to see why as I show you what I bought and how little I paid for it!

I was a little excited headed to the sale with my coffee in hand!

I had my basket, water bottle (to stay hydrated!), and list of items to look for ready to go!  There aren’t shopping carts at the sale, so many people take a laundry basket or Ikea bag in with them to help carry their load!  TIP:  If you attach a belt to your basket, you can pull it behind you.  It saves your arms!!

Stacy and I had fun catching up as we stood outside waiting to get in!  Ha yes, we might be groupies to be this die-hard.  A good deal is WORTH it though!  Do you see the similarity from this sale to Black Friday!?!

To prove that we aren’t the only ones this dedicated, check out the other moms with their baskets in front of us!

I didn’t get many pictures inside.  I was busy searching for deals :), but I did get a few pictures off of the All 4 Kids facebook page, so you can see what all greeted us inside the doors.

After we walked around for probably two hours, Stacy and I sat down to go through everything we had collected in our baskets.  This is my favorite part!  We see what we have found, admire each other’s goods, and put anything back that we decided we don’t really need.

At this point, I sent this picture to my best friend and my hubby:

The comment I sent with the picture was “Reagan really needs this, right!?!”  They both said yes!  I am so pleased to have found this!  A little girl with fur!?  How stinking cute!!  We weren’t the only ones doing this sorting of goods either.

Ok, are you ready to see my finds!?!  Here are the clothes I bought:

Here is how it broke down…

The gray leggings for $4 are brand new (with the tags on) from Ralph Lauren!  One of my favorite finds is the most Incredible costume ever!!

Can you believe that it came with boots, gloves, and a mask all for $7!?  That was a great find!!  Another cool costume was this fireman outfit.

The toys are some of the best deals at this sale!  I found some like always!

Reagan didn’t have a purse. 🙂  My favorite find for her though were these boots!!

Wont they look amazing with her fur vest!?!  My mother-in-law wanted me to find her some new toys for at her house, for when the grandkids come over.  I couldn’t believe the deal on the Little People toys!  All three of my kids LOVE them!  I found an airplane and the Noah’s Ark set with all their people for $5.00 each!

My absolute BEST deal is what I went looking for!  I found my jogging stroller!!

Can you believe that I got it for $25!?!  I was so excited that I not only found one…but that it had a tray…and a cup holder/key/phone stash up top…and to top it off…it was only $25!  I was ready to pay double that!

I hope you guys can make it to this sale this weekend!  It’s not too late if you haven’t gotten to go today!  It is open tomorrow (Friday) 9:00am until 7:00pm and Saturday 9:00am until 1:00pm.

If you make it to the sale, please be sure to tell your cash register this blog got you there!  Also, I would love to hear what awesome treasures you find!!  Happy Hunting!
