Our First Vlog

November 8, 2012 By Erica Deuel 11 Comments

Today, I am so excited to share with you my first ever vlog.  To be completely honest, I LOVED the idea of this video and interview, but I felt quite awkward with a microphone clipped to my shirt.  I’m so not good at being the one in FRONT of the camera, so special thanks to my amazing husband for his skills with this piece!!

Please take a look at my interview with two of the inspirations behind a lot of what I do.  Simply click on the video to watch, and afterwards scroll below to find out the winner of today’s burlap table runner.

As you can see, they are pretty cute.  I love their little hearts.  Thank you for checking in to see our first vlog.  I hoped you enjoyed it!  We hope to do those quite often.

Now, today’s giveaway winner (of one of these beautiful table runners) is Sally Peter!  Congratulations Sally!  I will be in touch!

If you haven’t entered the giveaway yet, wait for the Ralfocopter widget to load, and do enter.  This is the last chance to enter the giveaway for tomorrow’s grand prize!

I leave you with a few “behind the scenes stills” of our vlog experience…

The boys were pumped about their microphones.
This was a wee bit intimidating.

Welcome to Spoonful of Imagination!

November 4, 2012 By Erica Deuel 18 Comments

Welcome to Spoonful of Imagination!  I am so excited you found me in this huge cyber space world!  We have just moved from The Deuel Family blog and are so excited about our new site!

The Deuel Family blog was our online journal that we started in the fall of 2008. Those tales and a series of traveling with my husband’s job grew my love for blogging. As the blog world grew and changed so did I, and all of this led to the birth of Spoonful of Imagination. This blog exists to inspire parents to be the best mom and dads they can be in this rather brief yet hard time we have our kids at home.  All while remaining sane and keeping our interests and selves fueled. I feel like if you add a spoonful of imagination into every area of your journey, it will be a more beautiful life.  My greatest hope is that people leave here “imagining the possibilities!”

In the coming days, I will roll out some of my plans and ideas I have for this site.  BUT, now let’s get to the fun stuff!

As a special “thank you” to my Deuel Family Blog subscribers, I came up with this giveaway with all of your names entered in.  I used Random.org to draw one winner for this amazing giveaway prize.

Congratulations to Liz at A Pony Tail Kind of Day you are the winner of these earrings!  Liz, I’ll be in touch!  If you love these earrings, you can check out my store on how to get your own pair.

to infinity and beyond!

September 21, 2012 By Erica Deuel Leave a Comment

This week I was asked to make a superhero cape for a friend.  I said “yes!” and thought it would be a good Friday Project Spotlight item.

I love superhero capes and all the imagination and dreaming that they encourage!  As I watch my boys in their capes run and climb trees, I see this phrase in their eyes…

“If my mind can conceive it, and my heart can believe it, I know I can achieve it.”~Jesse Jackson

I love what a simple cape can encourage and build into the young ones that are our future.  They are a reminder to me.  Let them be little, and let them dream.

My cute model was not feeling his “fierceness” during our photo shoot.  I asked for an awesome superhero face and I got this…

I’m not sure if he was blowing out candles or holding his breath :).  I love this boy!

Thank you so much for looking at my Friday Project Spotlight item!  I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

If you would like to learn more about how I can create a cape for you through my little business, Dancing Zebras, you can click on the button below to be taken to my store!

Dancing Zebras and Dreams

July 25, 2012 By Erica Deuel 1 Comment

Congratulations to Tiffany, Nina, and Angela for each winning one of the three hair clips from last week’s giveaway!  Thank you so much for entering this giveaway and I hope you LOVE your clips!!

If you are sad to have missed out on this giveaway, please check out my store, Dancing Zebras.  There are more cute hair clips over there that you could get, and I am trying to upload even more soon!

Here are a few of my latest items…

Green Flower Bobby Pins

Creme Lace Hair Clip

Button Earrings

Retro Black and White Hair Clip

Red Flower Earrings

Dancing Zebras has been such a fun little hobby for me.  I love creating things and watching others enjoy them as well.  About three years ago my sister, Olivia, and I dreamed this idea up of doing a business together.  I remember sitting on the beach and staring out at the ocean as we brainstormed names for our company.  There were LOTS of things thrown out and good laughs till we came up with Dancing Zebras.

This endeavor has been so fun.  As stay at home moms, we loved the idea to be able to be home with our kids and still be able to craft (a passion of ours) while getting a little money in the process. We’ve had a few craft shows and private orders that don’t show up on our etsy store, and all of this just fuels us and keeps as dreaming.  Someday, I would LOVE to have a boutique little store.  In my city, Roswell, Georgia, there is a little street called Canton Street.  It has all kinds of cute stores and restaurants.  This part of town is called Historic Roswell.  I think my house is actually considered to be part of this area as well.  It’s all old buildings with exposed brick walls and little sidewalks.  Anyway, I dream of having a cute little shop out in a place like that.  Someday, right!?

It’s really hard to get enough inventory for a craft show with three little kids, let alone the risk in having a real store.  I think there is value in knowing my limitations to my dreams.  I dreamed of being a mom and I am, so I choose to enjoy and soak in this season of my life.  One day I will have all the time in the world to craft and try to start a store and I will miss this season.  It’s a constant conscious process to be fully present in the present.

In about thirteen days, Olivia and I will be back on another beach together.  I’m excited to catch up and brainstorm in an environment that does our souls good!

What are your dreams!?!
