Two-Minute Fall Decor

September 18, 2012 By Erica Deuel 1 Comment

Yesterday, I was admiring all the fall decor in Hobby Lobby.  Fall is my favorite season, and Hobby Lobby is my favorite store.  So, this was a really good moment in my day.  While staring at some really cute fall frames, I got the urge to buy one.  I checked the prices and didn’t want to spend $15 on a frame that was already %40 off.  I decided I would make my own!  This is what I came up with…

I literally grabbed a piece of wood I already had, three frames from the dollar store, three nails, and my hammer.

I was set to just tack the frames lightly to the piece of wood.  In doing this, it would be easy to pull the nails out every year and replace the picture with a more current picture and then nail the nails back in.  Right before I started hammering my frames on, I decided I wanted to spray paint them.

I spray painted them a burnt orange, with some paint I already had.  I looked at them laid out and decided I liked it and hammered them in place with one thin nail each.

The dollar store frames were perfect for this craft because instead of glass they had a thin clear plastic to cover the picture.  This allowed for the frames to be hammered in without the worry of shattering glass.  I had plans to go back and either paint, stencil, or use stickers to create a “Welcome to our Pumpkin Patch” message across the frames like this…

BUT, I fell in love with my new framed art and didn’t want to make it too “seasonal”.  I liked the rustic/fall look, but it also keeps my frame more versatile incase I want to use it at other times in the year.

It was so easy and quick!  You can do it!  Thanks so much for all of those that read about our family the other day!  I love sharing about things and people who I love!

Thanks for checking in!  I hope you are enjoying this change of seasons too and getting a taste for it in your weather and decor!

Hair bows for “Our Hearts. Our Love.”

September 8, 2012 By Erica Deuel 1 Comment

I had intentions of starting my Friday Project Spotlight back up yesterday, but you see the day got away from me.  What I wanted to share with you are some hair bows I made for a sweet friend.

My friend Kendra just had a beautiful baby girl about three weeks ago.  Kendra already had one sweet little girl, Isla, and she waited to find out the sex of this baby at birth.  She had Gracie while I was on the road, and I have been itching to make these cute girls some hair bows since she was born!!  Now that I am home, and reunited with my craft supplies, I finally got to make them!

Kendra is one amazing girl!  I have loved her since I met her, but the closer we have gotten…the “cooler” she gets.  You might know her as “Our Hearts. Our Love.”  She has a blog, and it is my favorite one to read!  She is real, personal, open, and so relate-able.  I feel like every one of her posts leave me “wanting more”.  That is some good writing.  To top it all off, she takes the most gorgeous pictures (two of which I yanked and are using here).

This week I read Gracie’s birth story, and I promise you it is one of the best reads out there.  Kendra opted for a home birth…in which Gracie beat the midwife to the birth (if you get what I am saying!)  There are promises of surprise, toilets, and poop in the most simple, natural “gorgeous-ness” all in one post!  You must read it!

I am so excited for Kendra and can’t wait to see her girls in these hair bows!  Incredible job Kendra!!  I’m so proud of you!!  You did it!!  Thank you for sharing your story with us!  (I had permission to point you to this intimate, amazing story!)

Thank you so much for checking out my hair bows!  I hope you are having a relaxing weekend!

“Craft and Draft” brought to you by Roux & Dancing Zebras

January 29, 2012 By Erica Deuel 1 Comment

Yesterday, I had one of my first craft shows!  Haha as if you didn’t know!?!  Sorry I will stop blowing up facebook with information about it now!  🙂  It was a complete blast!!

It’s an amazing thing when doors open and opportunities find themselves in your life that are more than you hoped for!!  Around last October, I started dreaming up having a craft show, so I started creating things for it.  Come December I had a few friends who said they would do a craft show with me.  I never found a place where the price and location felt right for everyone.  I became discouraged and let it go and decided to put my stuff on etsy instead.

A few short weeks later, I was asked to sell my stuff at Roux!  Isn’t an amazing thing how God will teach us about trusting him?  The minute I let it go…he brought it to ME!  I have been giddy and oh so nervous.  Canton Street in Roswell is ligit.  It’s got some amazing restuarants and crafty stores.  In my mind, this is the big leagues!  The owner of Roux is pretty amazing and one of my brother’s best friends so that was my “in” and I sure did not want to let them down.  If you have not been to Roux-you need too!!  I am all into eating less meat right now.  They have a black bean hamburger with gacumole that is pretty much the best thing ever!  I had it yesterday and I am already craving it again!  Their tomoato soup is my favorite too!

Anyway, back to my sale:).  I was so nervous!!  I love the crafting part.  It is my nights when Matt is gone or my nap time activity (when I don’t take a nap too).  The hard part for me is pricing.  I never know what to price things.  I wont make things higher than I would be willing to spend for them, and I guess you could say I’m pretty cheap:).  Thrift stores are where most of my kids clothes come from…or friends…or the clearance rack at Target and Old Navy.

I was nervous, but once we were there and set up…it was just FUN!  So many amazing people that I love came and saw me!  I loved feeling their support but than also having strangers enjoy my stuff too!  It was very validating.  I know our validation should not come from anyone but Jesus alone…but being all honest-my little soul felt some joy.

Thank you so so much for everyone who helped make this possible!!  Big thanks to my mom and inlaws for loving on my kids all day so I could have some “me” time and have my sweet husband there with me!

p.s.  He was JUST amazing!  He unloaded ALL my bins, set up, found a way for me to take credit cards, and did the money part so I didn’t have too!!  I was half frozen by the time it was scheduled for one of us to be home to relieve my mom with our kids.  After a full day, I was ready to see my sweet kids.  He let me come home and stayed in the cold for another two hours working the night shift and than packing up my stuff to bring home.  I am so blessed!!

I’m taking in this Sunday with a lot of gratitude and a full heart!  Here are some pictures from my big day…

My brother Tony is quite the artist/wood worker!!  He has some amazing skills!!  Most of the paintings you see are his… as well as the two GORGEOUS tables, coffee table, and yellow shelf.  The yellow shelf, which I adore, is still available if you want it!  I totally believe it’s a $300 piece easily, but he has $75 on it!  If I had a big enough toy or craft/school room I would TOTALLY buy it!!  Message me if you are interested in it!
