Be-You-tiful

June 17, 2013 By Erica Deuel 1 Comment

be you tiful wood signNothing scares me quite like the thought of little girls growing up without self-confidence. Insecurity and false outlooks on who you are can lead down a dangerous slippery slope full of pain, pot holes and muddy waters. It kills me to think my Reagan could some day stumble down this kind of path. I probably tell her way to often that she is a masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10) because often she will respond with “I know” or even “thank you.” Sometimes she responds with “No, you are a masterpiece, mommy” and my heart melts.

I want her to know and believe in the very fibers of her being that she is unique.

She is special.

There is no one on this planet like her.

She is an original.

She is not meant to be like everyone else.

God designed her the way he wanted her for a purpose.

Everything about her is unique and matters.

This weekend we got to celebrate one of my sweet niece’s birthday. As I thought of her turning two, I thought how young she is and was praying these same prayerful requests over her. I pray I always have a relationship with my daughter and nieces where we can talk and be open.

I made this sweet little sign for my niece as part of her birthday present. It is almost the exact same method as my You Are My Sunshine wood sign, but below you can see the main ideas on how to make your own sweet reminder sign.

I love these be-you-tiful girls!

The joy and innocence in these sweet faces melt my heart. I just want to guard them and put walls around them for all the lies and insults that will be thrown at them in years ahead. I wish I could, but I can’t. Instead I can turn to Jesus and trust his plan for their lives and pray I am a valuable tool in their journey.

The Rug That Captured My heart

April 7, 2013 By Erica Deuel 11 Comments

When I married Matt, I knew I married up. Many of you know our story and that I had a childhood crush on him as a little 6th grade girl at summer camp. Fast forward about nine years, and I was old enough that our five-year age gap didn’t seem like a big deal. We re-met, fell in love, and got married all in about eight months. It was the best decision I have ever made.

When we got married, I moved in to his house. I went from living in a dorm room to owning a house in a matter of months.  It was surreal. We worked through “redecorating” and making this “bachelor pad” our home.

I say all that to say, I have never bought a house or had to move to this level. It is all so new and exciting to me.  I feel like everyday I wake up dreaming and my mind is racing with ideas, excitement, and gratefulness.

I am so excited about going into a “blank slate” and decorating. I am excited to be able to have conversations we have never had before.  For example, where should the couch go? And which wall should this sign hang on?  All this will be new and I am looking forward to it.  It is less than a month away!

I told you I am really excited about decorating Reagan’s room.  Another room that I am giddy about is our dinning room.  It is the first room you see when you walk into the house.

IMG_6792As my sister has said, it is a bit “fancier” than my taste.  I plan to make it our own though!  I love the big bay window that looks out on our street.  I want to create a feel that is warm and inviting, so you know I will be adding lots of color :).

The inspiration behind this room is my gorgeous new rug!

Thank you to Mohawk Flooring for providing this rug for our new dinning room. It is the 8′ x 10′ Mohawk Home Charm Nylon Rug, Multi Colored, and it is even more beautiful in person. I am so giddy about it! As soon as it came, I rolled it out and couldn’t believe it is even more beautiful in person!  I am not the only one that fell in love with it.  My little girl, started dancing and giggling like crazy on it!

Loving our new rug

Isn’t she a sweet model? I think the beautiful colors and flowers are so fun, and they definitely captured our attention!  I can’t wait to put this rug in our dinning room and have it be the accent and palate of colors as our design inspiration.  I love how there are lots of colors we can go off of, yet the bordering and background gray keep it from being too over powering. It is a bold piece, yet it is warm and inviting.  It is perfect! If you are wanting a fun statement rug that will help define a room, I think this is the perfect rug!

Matt is going to make us a big wood table to go in this room as well. I am also trying to find old wood chairs to paint and stain to go with it. I cant wait to figure out some window treatments and art/decor for the walls. I might even move our kids’ art wall into this room.

Our new rug has definitely inspired me and has my mind reeling with ideas!  I will keep sharing our progress as we make over this empty room into a place that we love and use daily!

In the mean time check out Mohawk Flooring. They have a huge selection of beautiful area rugs at reasonable prices, and they can be found in so many stores!   You can also connect with them on Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, and Pinterest.

Disclosure: I received this rug for free, but all opinions and words are my own.
