Old Home Tour

February 23, 2013 By Erica Deuel 10 Comments

We laughed with our realtor yesterday about the use of the term “house” versus “home.”  There is a difference between the two words.  One seems matter of fact and the other is personal.  Since we began this house attack process, our living residence was a “house” in most of my frame work.  I had a list of to-dos and I just kept at them.  This week, the list of to-dos got less and less until we were done.  Now that I am not in task mode and breathing (and able to sit once again), I am getting sad about leaving this place that we call home.

Our Home

We changed this old 1952 house from Matt’s bachelor pad to a place where we started our marriage and our family.  So many memories exist here.  Although I am excited for this next phase of life, it will be sad to close a huge chapter here.

Yesterday, I showed you a quick DIY Initial I made to complete one of my staged shelves.  Today, I want to give you the full tour of our house.  Almost the way potential buyers see it…a full video walk thru.  I will be updating our Home Tab at the top with more pictures soon, but I want to get them organized and edited properly first.  Until then, please come see our house!  Welcome in!

If you made it through the whole video, you saw we have two huge beds for these rascals.

My dogs

I don’t talk much about our pups, but they are fun (and trouble) and nervous wrecks right now with all the moving and changes that have been going on.  You also saw in the video I couldn’t take down all my boys’ art in their bedroom.  I took down LOTS of pictures for staging, but I just couldn’t take down all their art.  The video goes from our house to our apartment out back that I have mentioned we rent out to my brother and sister in law.  Tony is the wood worker that I always refer to, hence the big pile of wood at the foot of their bed.  The last thing you see is Matt’s office that Tony and our friend Zach helped create.  Its one of my favorite places on this property.

Well, there you have it!  That is our home!  I will be back soon with lots of pictures and some DIY of items you saw featured.

Old Navy Shopping Spree

February 12, 2013 By Erica Deuel 9 Comments

I am obsessed with Old Navy clothes.  No joke.  In all honesty, it is my favorite clothing store.  You can’t beat the prices and quality.  I was beyond excited when I was chosen to write this campaign.

Old Navy’s Kids and Baby Sale is an annual event I tuck in my head.  There are so many “basic” pieces we need every season like gym shorts and solid colored shirts that you can not beat paying only $5 each.  During this sale, even the cute collared shirts, character shirts and jeans are priced almost half of their normal cost.  The deals are unreal.  Cute sundresses at $5 and $8 each?  Yes, please.  I will take one in each color.

This annual Kids and Baby Sale is going on right now.

We might frequent Old Navy so often, that I am breeding three little smart shoppers of my own.  My Caleb is almost six and has opinions of everything he puts on.  He’s at that age (already!?) that I hardly buy him clothes without asking if he like them first.  There is no use buying something that he wont ever wear.  I decided to take him with me on my shopping spree for a fun little mommy date.  Here is a short segment from our date.  (Stay tuned after the video clip for pictures from our modeling shoot.)

He is hilarious, and we had the best time shopping together.  It’s a good thing everything Old Navy sells is really cute, because he was picking up colors of shirts he liked that I wouldn’t have chosen for him.

Smiley faces, beautiful clothes… and that all hits you right in the doorway!

Since we both have our favorite local Old Navy layout’s memorized, we went straight to Caleb’s size area.

After we ooohed and awwwed over everything in the boys section, he tried on a few things to make sure they were perfect.  They were, and I got a series of Superhero poses right there with the items in the dressing room.  He was so excited, and I know he felt so cool.  It warmed my mama’s heart.

We took our cart of his items and some things for J and headed to the girl section.

My sweet boy was so excited to pick out items for his siblings too.  I loved watching him pick out things that he knew they would like.  He struggled back and forth over the character shirts for Reagan.  They had so many good ones!  The final debate was between a Minnie Mouse and an Elmo and Abby shirt.  Elmo and Abbie won, and Reagan is thrilled!

I think I could of bought a pair of each of these shoes for miss Reagan.  They are sooooo cute!

Old Navy has such cute accessories to complete outfits for awesome prices.  I love their hair and jewelry items.  The pink hair bow Reagan models later is one of my favorites!

Caleb ended up getting two pairs of shorts, three shirts, a hat, and a pair of flip-flops.  J got two shirts, a pair of shorts, a hat, and a pair of flip-flops.  Reagan got two dresses and a shirt.  Can you believe ALL of that was about $75!?  The deals are unreal right now.  You need to go check it out!

We had a great time on our shopping trip, so of course we had to come home and have a photo shoot in our new clothes.  No matter that it was raining!

These kids have my heart and are so stinking cute.  Put them in nice, clean clothes without any stains or food and it’s like over the top.  Since we were already outside, we enjoyed a nice rainy walk.

Thank you Old Navy for amazing prices year round, and this Kid and Baby Sale is just incredible!

If you don’t believe me on the deals, check out your local Old Navy store or look online.  You will be thankful you did!

Kids of a blogger

February 4, 2013 By Erica Deuel 2 Comments

I had a request from a sweet friend and reader to hear more of what my kids say.  They are such a big part of my blog content, I love the idea of allowing you to see more of who they are.  With a professional video editor for a husband, I should do more videos.  Today, I am proud to say…I did this video all by myself (except for getting it on You Tube of course :)).  Here is why…

As I mentioned in my Valentines Day mantel post, my kids were scheming up a plan during the mantel’s photo shoot.  It was such a sweet moment of my kids’ hearts (and I had my camera out), that I knew I had the opportunity to let you see a window into their hearts and more of who they are.  Enjoy!

Aren’t they cute!?  Now all you mom’s of boys know that in the midst of sweet moments, distractions (aka wrestle fights) can throw everyone off course.  Do you recognize this sequence below?

brothers wrestling fight

You know those mama snuggles and one remorseful, funny brother…

…and the giggles and happy boy returns!

In a moment of giggles, all the tears are forgotten and they are best friends again.

This is all happening while the little girl continues on normally with her afternoon snack…

…and plays happily with her Mickey Mouse doll, rocking it to sleep.

little girl with mickey mouseTears and crying brother fights don’t even phase her.  It’s just normal life.

So, we all played and I took more pictures, before we got back on track with preparing “daddy’s special dinner” as talked about in the video.

Caleb ran around and found things he wanted to display on the dinner table, and he came up with this setting all on his own.

valentines day table decor

He propped up the paper mache stars they painted that week against a vase of flowers and berries he cut in the backyard.  He gathered candles, a family picture, and our decor pine cones.  The boy has style.

Later at dinner, Reagan wanted her star and Caleb said “now it doesn’t look right” as he gave it to her.  He was able to process why he thought that out loud, and his answer left Matt and I smiling (and slightly giggling on the inside).  He said there was now a “hole” in the layout.  What five year old can see and know that!?  I adore this boy.

special daddy dinner

We had a great dinner, and I couldn’t be a prouder mom of my three littles.

If you are ever wondering about the kids of a blogger, they are just real kids.  They climb on chairs, destroy the house in a matter of minutes, and try to take off their mama’s socks.  These are mine, and I am crazy about them.

I hope you had a great weekend!

Our First Vlog

November 8, 2012 By Erica Deuel 11 Comments

Today, I am so excited to share with you my first ever vlog.  To be completely honest, I LOVED the idea of this video and interview, but I felt quite awkward with a microphone clipped to my shirt.  I’m so not good at being the one in FRONT of the camera, so special thanks to my amazing husband for his skills with this piece!!

Please take a look at my interview with two of the inspirations behind a lot of what I do.  Simply click on the video to watch, and afterwards scroll below to find out the winner of today’s burlap table runner.

As you can see, they are pretty cute.  I love their little hearts.  Thank you for checking in to see our first vlog.  I hoped you enjoyed it!  We hope to do those quite often.

Now, today’s giveaway winner (of one of these beautiful table runners) is Sally Peter!  Congratulations Sally!  I will be in touch!

If you haven’t entered the giveaway yet, wait for the Ralfocopter widget to load, and do enter.  This is the last chance to enter the giveaway for tomorrow’s grand prize!

I leave you with a few “behind the scenes stills” of our vlog experience…

The boys were pumped about their microphones.
This was a wee bit intimidating.
